Dallas Opera - Don Carlo

Why see Dallas Opera - Don Carlo?

CHURCH VS STATE. FATHER VS SON. LOVE VS DUTY.

Passion, political intrigue and religion collide in Verdi's fiery masterpiece, returning to the Winspear Opera House in this brand new staging from the Dallas Opera. Set against the tumult of the Spanish Inquisition, immerse yourself in a thrilling epic of love and betrayal, set to one of the repertoire's most scintillating scores. If you thought your family dynamic was complicated just wait until you discover the fate of Don Carlo and his forbidden love Elizabeth.

What is the story?

Centering round the love of Elizabeth, a princess of France and Don Carlo, their future together is destroyed when Don Carlo's father, the despotic King Philip II of Spain takes her hand, making the lovers into mother and son. As war rages endlessly, romance is tested further by duty and religion. This devastating and emotional tale still packs a punch some 150 years after it first premiered.
