Don't miss this double bill of two 21st Century gems, new to the Dallas Opera. Both lauded for their innovation and unique artistry, their inclusion side-by-side will elicit a raft of emotions, from glittering romantic gaiety to the devastation wrought by the end of an affair.
Pulchinella
A one-act Neoclassical ballet scored by Igor Stravinsky, this giddy romp featuring the artists of Dallas Black Dance Theatre, takes into the mind of the titular Pulchinella. A prankster associated with Commedia Dell'arte, he uses his roguish charms to seduce and sway. Couples are split and reunited, and like all great romantic comedies, it all ends with a wedding!
La Voix Humane
Adapted by Francis Poulenc from Jean Cocteau's play of the same name, La Voix Humane (The Human Voice) is a plum role for Patricia Racette who'll play Elle. Over the course of the last phone call with her lover who has moved on to someone else, passion, anger, and sadness intwine to create an achingly touching portrait of heartbreak.
