Mufasa: The Lion King Is Coming To Cinemas

The Prequel To The Beloved Story Is Hitting The Big Screen!

We just can't wait for Mufasa! Disney is warming up this winter with the announcement of The Lion King prequel, Mufasa, scheduled for release on December 20th. A roaring and welcome surprise, the film involves some gigantic names (such as Beyonc) and shows how the original King of Pride Rock came to earn his crown.

Who Is Involved?

Mufasa is directed by Barry Jenkins, celebrated for his Oscar-winning work. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the mastermind behind Hamilton and In the Heights, will orchestrate the film's musical score, supported by contributions from Lebo M.

Reflecting on his involvement, Miranda said, "The Lion King has an extraordinary musical legacy, and I am honored to be part of it. Collaborating with Barry Jenkins to bring Mufasa's story to life has been an incredible journey."

What Is The Story?

Chronicling Mufasa's origins through flashbacks narrated by Rafiki to the young lion cub, Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, audiences will witness Mufasa's humble beginnings as an orphaned cub as he crosses paths with Taka, the heir to a royal lineage.

Who Is The Cast?

Aaron Pierre takes on the role of Mufasa, with Kelvin Harrison Jr. portraying Taka and Tiffany Boone embodying Sarabi. Notable additions include Kagiso Lediga as Young Rafiki, Preston Nyman as Zazu, and Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros. Thandiwe Newton and Lennie James round out the cast as Taka's parents, with Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, and John Kani lending their talents to pivotal roles. Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner reprise their roles as Pumbaa and Timon, while Donald Glover and Beyonc Knowles-Carter return as Simba and Nala. Blue Ivy Carter joins the cast as Kiara.
