WTF WERE YOU THINKING?

This is the absolute worst play ever! I thought I was going to see the original version of Oaklahoma; instead, I watched some crazy on drug version of nothing I know. Don't take your family, children, mothers... nobody you know will like this! My first clue was the set. Next, there was nobody there to see a wonderful musical, then it started. 2 minutes into dialog, I was saying to myself what is going on here? I wanted to leave at the intermission but I thought it can't get any worse.....Boy, was I wrong!?! We started with a girl in a t-shirt and white panties practically having sex with herself. I could go on, but I am more upset that I spent $350 to have good seats. I will definitely be calling the Fox theatre for my money back. Don't waste any time out of your life going to see this because you will never get that time back! Don't take your children, mothers, family, or enemies to see this; it is the WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU! I'm still wondering if I was drugged walking into the theatre, and it was all some trip I was on? Whoever came up with this version of Oaklahomr should be ashamed of themselves. The person who approved it should be ashamed of themselves and the society that brought it to Deteoit.... SHAME ON YOU!!

OKLAHOMA

This production should have been titled An Interpretation of Oklahoma, so that theater goers were aware that they were not going to see the traditional production of Oklahoma. A paid $96 a piece for three tickets and we left after intermission, it was so awful. Many people were complaining and leaving as well. I would like my money reimbursed.

ABSOLUTELY TRAUMATIC

This show was insulting and I now understand why ticket sales were so low. From a technical standpoint, this show was a disaster. The dialogue made no sense because the characters sat on stage until it was their turn to talk. The set was a few picnic tables and chairs, and stayed that way for the entire show. The costumes, or lack thereof, were extremely disappointing. The rewrites were so disturbing I felt physically uncomfortable the entire time. For example, the scene where Judd tries to make a move on Lourey consisted of a pitch black auditorium with repulsive kissing noises and the sound of a belt unbuckling. Horrifying. The use of camera work straight out of Blair Witch made zero sense. The worst part was the dance sequence that started the second act; a woman butt-scooting, thrashing, and moaning for an eternity. The casting choices were awful and they all seemed as if they were bored the whole time. Half of the crowd left after intermission. Do NOT waste your money!!

INAPPROPRIATE

This show is inappropriate. In one scene Curly gives step by step instructions on how Jud should commit suicide. Encouraging and bullying him into killing himself. Curly ends up killing Jud and the witnesses are told to say it was in self defense, even though it wasn't. What message are we sending our children and troubled people? Suicide is a serious issue affecting many people, including patrons of the arts.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

This was by far the worst and most disappointing show I have seen at the Fox Theater. It is so dark and so many strange things happening during the show. So many people left at intermission and I should have left as well. The 2nd half was so strange. It started off with a weird "Dream Baby Dream" performance, that had such loud screeching music that I had to plug my ears. The performance made absolutely no sense. There were 117 rifles on the side walls. Plus all of the Bud Light that the actors kept popping and drinking. To take a classic Musical and convert it into an absolute disaster of a show that made no sense. They kept turning off the lights and a camera guys was doing an up close shot of actor's face and projecting on back wall. The bloody scene at the end. A stage hand even came on the stage during the performance to remove the pan of milk. That was the only change of the set. Actors sat at picnic type tables until it was their turn. Just a weird, weird show.

WORST MUSICAL EVER!

What a horrible way to present this iconic broadway musical. The acting was poor. The sound was poor, you could hardly hear what the cast was saying. Aside from the actual songs from the original musical the rest made me think i was at a Jimi Hendrix concert. The set was cheap and blah. There myst have been an agenda due to the rainbow streamers hanging over the stage. And the interpretative dance number made no sense at all and it was just weird. Obviously the person behind all this wanted a darker version created. Well, it was definitely dark and pointless. It was a total waste of my money and time. If this is what is up and coming we are in big trouble. Make sure to check out the reviews in the New York Times. They were not positive at all. Which i would have saw them before getting my ticket. The only positive thing was my girlfriends and i had fun hanging out together

OKLAHOMA

If someone wanted the real Rodgers and Hammerstein experience, they won't get it in this production. Except for two handheld mikes which were used twice, the singers weren't miked so one never had a sense of how well the singers could sing. The musical had little dancing except for a square dance number and a "dream sequence" specialty. The dream sequence dance was not part of the original play, but seemed to try to mimic the sequence in Carousel. The biggest problem here was that the person performing the dance, while having had some dance lessons, did not appear to be a professional. Two times the stage was blacked out and one could hear people talking but had no idea of of what the action was. Then suddenly a multimedia image would appear of those conversing making visible some boring talking heads. There was no change of scenery, there was nothing appealing about the staid set, and there were cheap garlands strung across the stage. If I could give 1/2 star, I would.
