WISH I COULD SPEAK MORE FRENCH

I loved the production. Stephanie and Stephen's vocals were moving and emotional. The sets, costumes and supporting cast were all excellent. The only complaint I have was with the subtitles. I know a little French and it seemed that a lot of the dialog was not translated on the subtitles. Just very rudimentary translations so you got the gist of it but couldn't associate the vocals to the subtitles. I would wait to hear the French word that I knew was coming eventually.

EXCELLENT PRODUCTION

I flew to Dallas from Denver specifically to see Stéphanie d’Oustrac in this production. Was also delighted that Stephen Costello would sing Don José. The trip was worth every penny; it was a fantastic production and I enjoyed every minute. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the cramped and crowded staging in the last scene. What was that all about?

CARME

I treated my spouse to tickets to her favorite opera. We were a bit disappointed as we were on the 3rd tier and couldn't properly see because the stage was cramped and dark. The stage was too small, the props were barren or too crowded you couldn't differentiate the different characters. Made what was expected to be a beautiful performance was made tedious to sit through from our vantage point. By midpoint through almost 3 and 1/2 hours, we were thinking "kill her already!"
