LAURYN HILL CHICAGO THEATER

Lauryn Hill was fabulous. She sings from her heart. There was incredible diversity in her audience. The Age group of the audience expanded over decades. She spoke briefly about her absence from the stage, but I'm glad that she's back and she has not missed a beat. I appreciate that she's not driven to do what she does by the desire for wealth or fame but just for the love of MUSIC! If Lauryn Hill is ever in your area don't miss her show. There were no explosives, no wardrobe changes, no backup dancers, just plain old good SINGING!!

AMAZING PERFORMANCE BY MS. HILL

Ms. Lauryn Hill rocked the house tonight & reminded everyone why she is hip hop royalty. Her voice was stellar & her flow was L Boogie impeccable. The band, back-up singers & background graphics were excellent, as well. Ms. Hill performed just shy of two hours, and covered the classics from Miseducation , which had us on our feet dancing and singing along for the entire set. She was scheduled to hit the stage at 9:15pm. By 9:18 pm she entered the stage wearing a badass wide brim hat and a totally dope skirt. Then she just held court and did her thing. What a gift! Tonight was musical, but it was spiritual too. People—if you’re not a frequent concert goer, call the venue ahead of time to find out what time the headlining artist is scheduled to perform. That way you won’t run into babysitting issues and be disappointed. Just sayin... Last thing—DJ Reborn is tha truth! Didn’t see the first opening act. What I saw of Patoranking was really, really good. Happy 20th Fam!

PEEMASTERBARBEREXTRAORDINAIRE

The woman is Incomparable, just amazing. She did classic work on different music which was amazing to see her versatility. Appreciated every minute of Greatness and talent before my eyes. She sang the music as if it she created it recently showing the love and passion she has for her work is still there. She is just phenomenon!!!

BARCLAYS

Everyone complaining like other shows don’t run late… Not only did she perform the entirety of miseducation- it was a beautiful transcendence of creativity. Sorry- a 35+ piece band, a personal look into her family, a birthday cake …AND the remixes were .. insane. Fugees killed it. Y’all wanna hear the album the same way again or let the woman grow and evolve?

STARTED OFF ROCKY BUT ENDED ON A GOOD NOTE

So the concert started 2 hours late but we also got a 2 hour+ show. We didn't leave till after midnight. While her voice has changed, the performances overall was really good. The energy was amazing as well. It was her the Fugees, Wyclef, and another Jamaican artist. Her opening DJ was lit too. Compared to what she did in Toronto, I would say Chicago got a good show and I appreciate that as I paid 260 for my tickets (great seats), and came from Detroit to see her. Like I said, it started off as a rocky experience, but I was satisfied when I left the show. I could see the effort and feel the energy.

AMAZING!!!

The concert was outstanding in Chicago! Went with an open mi d and she did not disappoint. Yes she went on late but the vibe in the stadium was amazing. Loved every minute of it including new remixes.

AMAZING AND FULL OF POWER IN SEATTLE

I needed to come on here and write a review that is contradictory to earlier reviews. I read all the reddit feeds and posts here and was a bit nervous to go, but I am glad that I didn't let any reviews sway me. Miss Hill was breath taking in Seattle. Her voice, her power, her presents all filled my heart with joy. I sang and danced the full night. Based on other reviews I knew she would come on after 7:30 so we planned for that and showed up at 8:30. She opened with such power and captured the full crowd. We were all we in her orbit till past mid-night. Amazing.

BEAUTIFUL SHOW!

What a beautiful show! Lauryn sounded great, her vocals were right on, her messages of love and justice came through so powerfully. I felt so lucky to be there. Thank you Lauryn Hill!

LAURYN HILL CLIMBS TO THE MOUNTAIN TOP!

Just saw the Philadelphia November 25th show. Fantastic! Superb! Outstanding! If you weren't there you missed an Epic night! Dejays Reborn and Quest Love kept the place rocking. People were dancing to a brilliant mix of music. Ms. Lauryn Hill came on at 10pm. She blew the roof off the house. Her vocals were strong and clearly have more depth than her younger days. She remixed the classic songs of Miseducation and periodically returned to give you a sample of the original version. Her brilliant creative artistry was on full display. Wyclef and the rest of the Fugees came out and reminded you of why they became stars in the industry. Wyclef killed 911. But what they did with Killing Me Softly was masterful. These artist are all still at the top of their game and understand the significance of being great performers. Add in the local artist that Ms Hill and the Fugees show cased like the Delfonics, the Outsiders and an old school rapper( I don't recall his name) that can take younger rappers to class any day. This show was well put together. People left happy exclaiming how they had gotten more their money's worth.

GREAT CONCERT

Of course it was a while before her performance..and the 2 performers were good also even tho I didn't understand what they actually said but the music for both was good..but she got the crowd motivated..Kanye and Chance the rapper showed up too. Everyone I saw really enjoyed themselves... I only gave it a four because of the onterage and body guards that was with Chance getting in my way...but Lauryn was fire!!!!!

AN ARTIST AT WORK

While clearly struggling with vocals, she still gave it everything she had. It was fun to artist at work, and a range of musical styles from her solo work to the Fugees.

MISEDUCATION CONCERT IN DENVER NOV 2ND

I attended the concert held at the Ball Arena on November 4th. We got there early so we could check out the merch before the concert started. To my disappointment, they only had posters, T-Shirts and Hoodies. No hats, or other more affordable items. The T-shirts cost $50 ea and the Hoodies $130 ea. I anticipated the show not starting on time so I was OK with that. She had her DJ play for an hour and then she came on at 9:30pm. The stage was packed with musicians and 3 backup singers. Our seats were directly across from the stage in club level behind the sound boards. The mix was terrible. The bass was overpowering everything so her voice was muffled. You couldn’t make out any of the words. This went on thru the whole concert. She needs to find a new engineering crew! You could tell her voice was strained, but she gave it her all. The best part was when she quieted the band and sang softly. I wish she had done the whole concert like that. Ms. Hill: sending blessings.

3.0 star rating E from Seattle, Washington

DISAPPOINTING

the remixes of her songs made them unrecognizable and impossible to sing along with. she has a great voice but the concert seemed discombobulated and her outfit was bizarre — covered her whole self up so you couldn’t see her face or anything

2.0 star rating Clark from Minneapolis, Minnesota

WHAT HAPPENED TO LAURYN HILL?

less than half of her range, low vocal volume, super bad mix, people left in droves. all she had to do was a semi faithful rendition of her music. it was remixed, poorly, like she didn't really care. a lot of stops and starts, conversations with the band. mics not working. amateur hour. very disappointed. the miseducation is a seminal album that didn't get it's due.

2.0 star rating Carly from New Jersey

DISAPPOINTED

Glad to know her voice still there BUT her delayed start of almost 2hours and the horrible sound- engineering and super fast paced -bad remixes of her classics just left most of us wanting more. I left before the concert was over. SMH very unprofessional show. We wanted music.

2.0 star rating Angela from New York, New York

A CONFUSING, DISMANTLED, AND ULTIMATELY DISAPPOINTING REMIX OF AN ALREADY-PERFECT CLASSIC

I don't understand the need to take something that was/is so perfect and wonderful just to hack it up with remix-axe and deliver a meandering, confused, and lost version of it. All the crowd wanted was to experience the joy of Miseducation. We didn't even need for her to sound "the same"- we know she is older and her voice may have changed- thats FINE! Instead we got a huge band that clearly did not rehearse with her as often as they should have (also about 20-too-many people on stage), strange remixes of her songs (none of which were performed to completion), a family reunion (which, now that we know about that history seemed....unnecessary??) I love her so much, I love that album so much- but this was so disappointing and its safe to say I have accepted what people have been trying to tell me for years- her performing days are over. May that album live on where it belongs: In my favorites on Spotify, on the top shelf of my record player display, and in my memories.

LATE

All songs were mashed up understood because she lost the lawsuit years ago but hell some songs she sang twice she really struggled ..... I paid for the cheapest ticket coming from STL to chi I had a feeling it wasn't going to be great wanted her to prove me WRONG

HORRIBLE ACOUSTICS

Absolutely horrible acoustics last night at her Ball arena, Denver concert. One could not hear the actual words of any of the performers, be it the endlessly long DJ or Ms. Lauren Hill, herself. Disturbing and distracting and such a disappointment.

SO DISAPPOINTED - SEATTLE SHOW @ CLIMATE PLEDGE

Reluctantly giving two stars. She started two hours late, then every song she sang had mic and audio issues. All of them for an hour. She stopped to talk to the band and adjust her equipment repeatedly. We thought it was an issue with the venue, but sounds like it's almost every show. We left early. Huge waste of money, and she sang remixes that were disjointed and hard to follow along.

2.0 star rating Tammy McConnaughey from Seattle, Washington

I’M WORRIED ABOUT HER

It was not good. She came out finally at almost 10 pm all covered up in every animal print piece of clothing she had in her closet. She obviously wasn’t feeling well. She kept wiping her nose on a handkerchief. She had her head and her face all covered up. I wasn’t sure it was her at first. I kept expecting her to throw that shit off but she didn’t. I was really confused. I felt like I was watching a lady from church lip syncing to Lauryn Hill. I was really disappointed I hope she is ok. Because she doesn’t seem to be ok.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!

My wife and I were ready to see a great show and go on a date night that we rarely get a chance. The tickets stated the show started at 6:30 pm. So we schedule with our babysitter to be home by 9:30 pm. The ticket did not mention any prior acts to Ms. Hill so we thought 3 hours should be plenty of time. They did not let us sit in our seats until 7 pm or so and there were several act that played prior to the main act. I learned this morning she did not come on until 10 pm. $125 for ticket, $50 for babysitter, plus bad event schedule equals very disappointed!!!

1.0 star rating Derrick from Houston, Texas

WORST CONCERT EVER!

Ms. Lauren Hill took the stage 1.5 hours late. Sound quality was horrible, not sure if it was a band or venue issue. Her performance consisted largely of poorly remixed, almost unrecognizable versions of her older work. Total waste of time and money.

1.0 star rating K Peters from New York, New York

NEVER WOULD BE BETTER THAN LATE

Doors open at 7, shows up at ten. Then states that she’s working on remixing her old hits, because they are timeless, but she’s not done working on them. Maybe get it together before concert. Feels like she thinks she’s doing her audience a favor.

1.0 star rating Jak from New York, New York

DON’T GO WORST CONCERT EVER

LAUREL HILL had her “fans” wait until 11 o’clock before she arrived on stage.... Fan no longer She ride but she was a diva showing no remorse keeping everyone waiting until 11 o’clock at night the music was awful the sound was awful after two songs she started preaching we didn’t want to hear her views we were there for entertainment people leaving before she came out 2,5,10 people at a time and then when she perform two songs people leaving in clusters of 10 and 15 there were a lot of empty seats before she came out and then after he probably could’ve consolidated the people to a third of the arena it’s not just my opinion The biggest stars ever I do not keep their fans waiting until 11 o’clock at night she needs to have a reality check don’t waste your money don’t waste your time you’ll never get back to six hours you’re wasted going to her concert

1.0 star rating Kurt Peters from New York, New York

NOT WORTH THE WAIT

She showed up very late. Two hours of listening to a dj, whose main job was ensuring the audience LH was going to show up. LH felt the need to explain why she is doing old material, but still needs to work out the kinks for new arrangements. Sound was not good. A little practice time and effort may have made the concert bearable. But pretty much a waste of time.

1.0 star rating from New York, New York

DISAPPOINTED AND PATHETIC PERFORMANCE

After waiting over two hours for her to get on stage, the crowd was excited and eager to hear all her hits. Instead she sang a very poor remix which no one could even understand. She seemed disconnected from the band and the sound was terrible. I was so excited to see her, I was such a big fan and I left the show angry, disappointed and overall sad she wasn’t able to perform well. Left early and so did everyone else.

1.0 star rating Nicole from Washington, District of Columbia

DISAPPOINTING

The show started at 8. Lauryn didn’t come on until close to 10:20pm. She sang 4 songs, seemed agitated and walked off the stage by 11. We wanted more music.

LAURYN HILL SHOW ON 03/06

I would like to start with a positive note the Concert hall is a beautiful venue. The parking garage was right across the street and they except pre pay so our spot was reserved which made it extremely convenient. Far as the actual show I was highly disappointed in her performance. The fact we had to wait 2 hours for her to perform a 35 minute set was only 5 songs that is ridiculous. The band was over shadowing her voice which made her sound muffled. She chose to sing all the songs in an unconventional way you didn't know what song it was until it reached the chorus. The section I was sitting in were highly upset about how much we pay to see such nonsense. I will not recommend seeing lauryn Hill live. It was an absolute waste of time and money!!!

DON'T BOTHER

the opening singer was really quite fine and sang for about 30 minutes. The dj played about 45 minutes and was pretty good. Lauren finally arrived on stage 1 1/2 hours after the start. The sound was terrible and she was completely disconnected from the whole performance. She rambled and meandered and intermittently showed. It was horrible. about 1/3 of the audience walked out after 30 minutes of her singing

1.0 star rating from Cincinnati, Ohio

SONGS UNRECOGNIZABLE

I know every word to every song, but they were almost unrecognizable! You can call it a "remix", but it was so badly done all the songs lacked any melody at all. It was the saddest concert of my life. I had such hope, and drove 2 hrs to the Taft theater. I wish I had listened to other reviews. She has the talent and voice to sing her songs, she chose to destroy them. Out of boredom, or who, I don't know??? It was so bad.

LAUREN HILL AT RAVINIA...SHOULD HAVE STAYED HOME

Ms. Hill totally disrespects her fan base. She showed up at 9:30 for an 8:00 show, did not sound as if a sound check was done, constantly complaining to her stage staff, and very difficult to hear. Unfortunately, she appeared to be suffering from a cold and not in great form. A real disappointment at such a nice venue. She needs to treat her fans better.

1.0 star rating Isabela from Chicago, Illinois

TERRIBLE!

She showed up 1.5hr late and did a mashup of her songs to make up the time to “cover” all her songs. She changed the songs so much that some were unrecognizable. Don’t waste you money or time… not worth it!!

SHOW AT PRUDENTIAL CENTER WAS AWFUL

So disappointed at how bad this show was. I love live music of all types and my wife and I were so excited for this. It was so awful that we left after…we’ll I can’t tell after how many songs because I couldn’t tell one song from the other because you couldn’t understand her and the music and bass was way too loud and the only thing you could hear. I don’t even care that she showed up so late. She billed this as a celebration of the amazing album and it sounded nothing like that.

1.0 star rating Yael Aldrich from Newark NJ

STAY HOME AND LISTEN TO THE ALBUM

Just got back from the Newark concert. She was late (expected). We got there at 7:00pm and we waited for a rehearsal to get over (supposed to start at 7:30). The DJ started playing at 9pm and Ms Hill didn't come out until 9:45pm. The sound quality was atrocious. Couldn't understand 96% of what she said. My cousins and I (all who know the album back to front) couldn't not tell what song was being sung most of the time. The arrangements were unrecognizable. She sang two octaves lower than I've heard before. We left about one hour into the concert high as kites from the weed in the stands. A worker at the arena said to try to get out money back and I intend to try.

1.0 star rating K from NYC

WORST SHOW EVER!

Same situation at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Terrible sound. Couldn’t understand a word- not lyrics nor speak. She came on late. Babbled on. Kicked the Fugees off the stage twice (I’m sure they were trying to save her from herself.) I left before they came on. What a disappointment!!!

1.0 star rating Paul Hewson from Toronto, Ontario

WOULD GIVE 0 IF IT WERE AN OPTION.

Thought I paid to see a professional act. I’ve seen better performances at amateur night. Tardiness aside (because apparently that’s just her), the sound mix was awful, her voice hasn’t recovered from recent illness and songs were remixed to make them unrecognizable. Great albums Lauryn, but if you don’t want to perform don’t. Shame on me for financially supporting this utter disrespect for fans and live music in general.

1.0 star rating Theresa H from Prudential, NJ

BAD TIMING

Lauryn Hill needs to refund at last 1/2 ticket money back to her fans. W spent well over 5k , hot high off the contract, I got violently ill and almost cracked my car falling asleep for a1hr ride home…only to have to pulling over took a nap on the side of the road before racing home sick to my stomach! I am still recovering and took a trip to the ER from food poisoning while there. After a long drawn out argue with my boyfriend about my arrival time home, because he simply did not believe the concert took that long, it’s safe to say I will never attend another concert as her lateness was abusing to the time of her fans. Lauryn it’s not ok to this. Meditation or no meditation , people are making the effort to come out to see you. The least you could do is be on time or at least have opening acts kick off the show at the designated start time. Not have us sit in waiting area of the concourse without horrible food and once inside sit in silence for a few hours. I won’t ever attend another Lauryn Hill concert again

LAUREN HILL DISAPPOINTED

Not one to write reviews but this was very disappointing and we drove four hours to go see the show waited over 2 1/2 hours for her and it was terrible. We could’ve went out and had a nice dinner and listen to some jazz. Instead we had crappy food and a DJ that played 2 1/2 hours too long, this show was the worst concert that I ever went to. It was really sad to see if she couldn’t sing.

THE "MISSED OPPORTUNITY" OF LAURYN HILL

My friend & I went to the Lauryn Hill + The Fugees show on 11/2 at Ball Arena. I was gifted the tix by my boss who couldn't go. We were excited to hear Lauryn & The Fugees live. Doors were at 7:30pm but Lauryn didn't go on stage until after 9:30pm. Ridiculous. The second she started, the sound was terrible. It was painfully loud, the mix was really bad, (bass & drums overpowering everything), & there were 30+ people on stage leading to a busy & jumbled sound. We knew Lauryn had been dealing w/ voice issues but she was hard to hear w/ all of the sounds happening. We could barely recognize the songs b/c they were performed like hyped-up remixes. Speaking of "hype," she had a hype man on stage who was much louder than her & yelling "1, 2, 1, 2!!!" repeatedly. It was annoying. We had been excited to see The Fugees but that set didn't even start until 10:45pm (the show was slated to end at 10:30pm). We listened to 3 songs and left at 11pm. I'm so glad I didn't pay money for this concert.

WORST CONCERT I’VE SEEN SINCE SHANIA TWAIN

She was late, I knew that would happen based on other performances in the past. What I didn’t know is that she was clearly high on something. The way Whitney was high before she passed. Songs were mashed up, which I also expected based on reviews… but there was no cohesion in the music. Violins on stage and couldn’t even hear them. Worst worst worst show ever. Don’t waist your money.

PART OF BEING AN ADULT RESPECT TIME WE DON'T GET IT BACK

To think that it's okay to have nearly 18,000 people wait to arrive nearly 3 hours late, shows Lauren Hill has no respect for anyone. A Sunday show starting at 7:30pm and not to show for nearly 3 hours? People work and have time restrictions, obligations; if you can not handle putting on a show then don't! Show up early and do your bit. Absolutely disgusted. Others have had the same review for other shows and I'm more upset after hearing this was not an isolated incident. She should be sued tenfold for having the audacity to waste so many people's time. Someone who does not get to watch the show they paid for NOT because of some act of God but, because Lauren Hill chose to be late and chose to make her "fans" wait for 3 hours resulting in having to leave and not even watch the show. Waste of time, money, energy, highly disappointed. Show up to work late a few times working an honest job and guess what you don't have that job anymore. Do your job. Do it on time. Boo on you. Refund now.

Horrible you can't start 3 hours late. Just stay wherever you were and give people their money back for the waste of time.

TRULY SAD

As a big fan of LH I was beyond excited to see her preform in LA with an extra bonus of the Fugges. As everyone knows she was 2 hours late and blatantly disrespectful to the fans about it! So, finally the show started and it was confusing. It was such a tease. The remixes of her classic songs made them unrecognizable, and not in a good way. She was definitely struggling with her voice, understandable but on other songs she was basically yelling, it sounded as if she was damaging her voice even more than before. Everyone in the audience just sat there in complete shock! Is this for real? It felt like a twilight Zone. Know one was dancing. Grooving or even bopping their heads. It was so sad. Honestly, my friend and I left feeling worried for her. Is she ok? Everyone needs to make a living but maybe she should’ve written a book! The band was way too loud, like they were purposefully trying to hide her voice. She was scolding them throughout the show. Truly sad. I pray she’s ok.

NEVER AGAIN

Horrible we have jobs to go to in the morning don't show up 3 hours late. Continue to show up late and only tell the crowd we are lucky you are on the stage every night. I beg to differ. Get a different job.

WORSE CONCERT EVER

I never write reviews good or bad but I don’t want anyone else to waste their money or time. I wish I had read reviews before going to the show. Concert start time was 7:30pm she came on stage at 9:30pm all covered up wasn’t even sure it was her. Sound was awful. She clearly had not practiced with her band. Was giving directions to the sound engineers let’s be real it wasn’t their issue. Vocals were terrible and she even apologized several times stating that she would course correct with her rapping. This was clearly a money grab for her after learning from her tweeter account that she had cancelled several shows due to voice strain. End the tour and let us all just listen to you on Spotify. If Ms. Hill would like to give a refund I’d happily take back the $550 + $35 for parking that was spent. Felt horrible for the fans next to us from Portland, OR and Canada because we could at least go home they wasted money on a hotel.

I WAITED 25 YEARS TO SEE LAURYN HILL AND LEFT CONFUSED AND DISAPPOINTED

The show was suppose to start at 7:30. Her Dj comes out at 8:30 and Dj'ed for an hour. Then Lauryn Hill comes completely covered in an all leopard outfit with a matching bucket hat, head scarf, sunglasses, and peacoat and gloves.(I'm surprised she didn't pass out from the heat of her clothing). The live band was very loud and unnecessary. She sang snippets of her songs with unrecognizable harmonies and beats. The tempo was way too fast. She seemed uptight at first but after awhile, she relaxed a bit. When she sang some bits and pieces of her songs WITHOUT the loud band that over powered everything & it was just her and her back up singers singing, she sounded beautiful. There were many times when she was hard to understand and she was skimming over words and rapping and singing so fast you didn't know what she was saying. It Wyclef Jean definitely bought energy. I tried my best to enjoy the concert. You gotta make lemonade out of lemons sometimes.
