Why See The Nat King Cole Songbook?
The DSO Performs The Works Of Nat King Cole
Join the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in celebrating the life and music of one of the most recognisable figures of America's golden era of jazz. Lead by jazz aficionado and conductor Jeff Tyzik, the ensemble, together with guest vocalist Denzal Sinclaire, will perform a range of songs from Nat King Cole's far-reaching career, including hits like Unforgettable, L-O-V-E and Nature Boy.
A trailblazer in every sense of the word, Nat King Cole began his career as a jazz pianist before becoming a contemporary to the likes of Sinatra and Dean Martin. His reign spanned much of the 40s, 50s and 60s, and because of the color of his skin, his celebrity aided his role in the civil rights struggle. A consummate showman with an almost supernatural charisma, his velvet-piled vocal chords remain unmistakable in their brilliance.
Performance date: 18 March 2018
