JOE JACKSON ROCKED THE HOUSE

his voice is powerful, rich, mature. The show was tender, funny (David Bowies Scary Monsters was all that), rocking and soulful. New material sounds exciting. Loved loved loved seeing Joe after twenty years. He's in rare form!!

JOE BROUGHT DOWN THE HOUSE

About halfway through Joe Jackson's set last night he revealed he had never played San Antonio before. He also mentioned it was one of the smaller venues he has played for most of this tour that has spanned 2 years and 88 shows. He then stated, " it must be about quality instead of quantity" and that is an understatement. The quality of this performance, which was the last one of this lineup and tour to promote his latest album, Fast Forward, which came out 2 yeasrts ago, was anything but lackluster. From the first chords of "It's Different For Girls" to the final notes of "Slow Song", Joe proved to the receptive loyal following why he is one of the greatest singer / songwriters of our time. With his incredible backing band, Joe spanned his 38 year career in a 20 song 2 hour non-stop concert that brought the house down. The emotions were evident both onstage and throughout the crowd with numerous standing ovations and appreciation from the stage as well. THANK YOU JOE!!

ALL THOSE EMPTY SEATS...FOLKS REALLY MISSED OUT

Polk theatre was about half full for the Joe Jackson concert last night. At one point in the concert, Joe commented those of us in attendance were special -- smallest audience on the tour. "I don't know what we did to upset Nashville..." he muttered with a smile. Well, I don't know, either, but those who stayed away missed a powerful, intimate concert. Jackson covered his career in a concert that spanned just under two hours. The smallish audience was delighted by old favorites like "Sunday Papers" and "Another World," as well as cuts off his latest album (Fast Forward) such as "King of the City" and "Ode to Joy." Based on the turnout, you couldn't blame Joe if he never comes to Nashville again. But here's hoping he forgives the slight and returns often.

NO LONGER THE ANGRY BRIT

So good to have fun with JJ last night - funny and interesting stories along the way. His voice was big and powerful and the mix of songs showcased his broad range.

AWESOME JOE!

Simply incredible concert tonight at Town Hall, NYC. One of my Top 3 all time Joe concerts, dating back to 1984. All 4 of the band were great, individually and collectively, but best of all was Joe’s voice and singing, so strong and the perfect volume. Got to go to Baltimore tomorrow, otherwise I’d be back tomorrow night, but will be catching him at another venue somewhere on the tour. Thank you guys! ‘Til next time. Joe, you’re the man!

FOUR DECADES OF STEPPING OUT

I have been a Joe Jackson fan for a long time, and after four decades of great music it was time to get to a show. The Aladdin is a great venue for a variety of reasons but chiefly it size all seats are good, and by Joe’s own comment, it’s cute. The highly appreciative audience were treated to a blazing retrospective of the artists catalogue. Which included such high points as “I’m the man”, “Sunday papers”, and “one more time “. Joe talent for poppy hits was balanced, by his owe description, with, “soul crushing ballads”, like “drowning”. All the players were on and sounded great, the drummer Doug Yowell seemed to enjoy breaking his sticks, guitarist Teddy Kumpel was genuinely into his craft and treated the audience to his best. The bassist Graham Maby has been playing with Joe for forty years, played well and looked like he was having fun. It was a great evening of music and it ended with Joe bringing out the original music synthesizer from 1979 and recreating “stepping out”.
