Why See The Dallas Opera - The Flying Dutchman?

The Phantom of the Opera...

Doomed to immortality by a devilish curse, the Flying Dutchman roams the sea waiting for his respite - every seven years he is granted to make land for one day, where if he discovers true love, he will be freed. Truly epic in scale and soaring in score, this masterpiece opera showcases Wagner's incredible talents whilst delving into one of the scariest tales in maritime folklore to stunning effect.

What is the story?

Many years ago, an unlucky sea-captain invoked the name of Satan whilst navigating stormy seas. As a punishment, Satan himself cursed the captain to roam the seas for eternity, never reaching home ports. But there is way out, every seven years he may alight on land where, if he can, he may seek a wife who'll be true to to him and break the curse.

When the time is right once again, we join the the Dutchman played by Greer Grimsley, as he encounters a mortal captain, Dagland and his eligible daughter Senta, who just happens to be be obsessed with the legend of the Flying Dutchman...
