Two dizzying operas
Dallas Opera's Heights of Passion Season continues with this double bill, starting with a specially abridged version of Alfredo Catalani's 1892 La Wally, covering the climatic final act that sees the heroine finally find happiness after years of Alpine isolation. As a finale, the world premiere of Joby Talbot's Everest, a piece that has been two years in the making, that explores the true story of an ill-fated 1996 expedition up the legendary mountain.
At the heart of La Wally is Wallburga, a passionate and strong woman who feels that love may have passed her by. This Alps set tale is seldom performed because of the difficulty of staging the explosive final act, but Dallas Opera have chosen to stage just that!
Everest is the search for something more than glory at 29,000 feet. Based on real events and compelling testimony from past explorers, this is the eagerly anticpated operatic debut from Brit composer Joby Talbot.
