A fun show for all the family!
Performed at Dallas Children's Theater, Yana Wana's The Legend of the Blubonnet is the perfect experience for families to enjoy together. It tells the story of protagonist Maria, a ten-year-old girl that keeps getting into trouble at school and is therefore sent to live with her Grandmother who is part of the Native American Coahuiltecan people.
The original account depicts an ancient tale set in Texas that tells the story of the Comanche people who danced for the spirits in an attempt to get rid of the drought they were experiencing. In the Yana Wana version, Maria learns the story of her ancestors who were in danger because of the drought and the sacrifices made to ensure her people's safety and continuance in a heartwarming and lovely play that touches on themes of heritage, family and destiny.
